Day 5: Muscle Matters
“You Can’t Be VITAL by Being IDLE”
That is a mantra I often repeat to myself and to my vitality students. We all need to take charge of our lives. We cannot expect to be vital if we act like Homer Simpson and eat pizza, drink beer and play video games all day.
We know the many benefits of walking, hiking, biking and almost any other aerobic activity. Exercise to build endurance helps improve your cardiovascular health. It helps burn calories. It can improve your mood.
The CDC recommends we “Move More and Sit Less”. They recommend 150 minutes of physical exercise per week. (Reference) This could be 30 minutes, five times per week.
I like the idea of 1000 seconds of exercise per day. That is about 17 minutes. Set that as a goal and you will be close to the CDC’s recommendations.
One thing that gets lost in the discussion is muscle. We all need muscle to move.
Muscle Matters.
Let’s explore the fascinating scientific data about how muscle enhances vitality.
