My dog Tess is the epitome of vitality & longevity. We just celebrated her 15th birthday this past weekend. That is about 105 in human years. We are so grateful for her as our trusted friend and family member.
A recently published paper confirmed the value of animal interactions in a unique study. The study evaluated the brain waves (EEG) of 30 healthy adults while they interacted with a dog in a variety of activities.
Here are the primary findings of the study:
“Our study demonstrates that animal interaction activities, such as playing, walking, massaging, and grooming dogs, have a positive effect by facilitating increased brain activity in healthy participants.”
“This indicates that certain activities activate relaxation, emotional stability, attention, concentration, and creativity.”
The researchers specifically found lower stress levels and lower mood disturbance scores. See graphs below:
The study concluded:
“Interaction with animals also reduces stress reactivity, anxiety, and behavioral distress and is considered an effective treatment for mental and behavioral disorders.”
